Sleepwalker
Cinema & dreams

Context
Sleepwalker: dreams & cinema is an installation suspended between film and dreams. In a sequence of four translucent panels four real dreams belonging to Lily or her close friends and sister are recreated in the style of four corresponding movies. These "cinematic dreams” raise the possibility that our dreams might be the unconscious product of films we have seen. Or that movies evolved because our dreams have always been cinematic: made of pure images and allegories.
The imagery is drawn onto large coloured acrylic sheets, which are illuminated by theatrical lights to create the effect of stained glass windows. A single sequence of panels was displayed in 2004 for Lily Hibberd's solo exhibition at Kings ARI, Melbourne, Australia.
