The Paint
Tin Fantasias explore themes of fantasy and pictorial
illusion in painting and cinema. Household paint tins are
used as the ‘canvas’ making reference to everyday
notions of paint. Included are twenty paint tins of ten different
distinctive colour schemes, The tins have drips running down
the sides, which been hand painted to look like artifice rather
than accident. Inside each coloured tin is a painting emerging
from the swirls of unmixed pigment. The imagery depicted refers
to delusions of grandeur in film. Twelve movies are referenced,
each one depicting a flawed character whose perception of
themselves is based on a illusion regarding their wealth,
beauty or power.
